The Fruits of Our Labors

Yellow, Black, and Blues § SEEDMAGAZINE.COM.

In this beautifully written article Joe Kloc examines the history of the honey bee and possible reasons behind the so-called Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) which has affected a large percentage of the worlds honey bee population since 2006.

As with so many other issues facing humanity today, the loss of a large percentage of the honey bee population, a pollinating species responsible for some two-thirds food supply, cannot be traced back to any single cause – be it a pesticide, a pathogen or an agricultural practice. The culprit likely is our entire approach towards farming and more generally towards Nature.

As a species we have only just begun to emerge from the reductionist myths of the past 400 – 500 years. The sooner we embrace and recognize that the web of life is a fragile structure that does not respond well to untamed human greed, the sooner we might find ourselves a way out of potential calamity.
